Business Intelligence (BI) and metering data analysis
According to various sources, the number of smart meters deployed will increase tens of millions by 2015. The number of energy information displays and in-home devices will raise this number even more. Connected by different physical layers, they will produce enormous amounts of valuable data for the Utility to effectively deploy customer-oriented curtailment programs. The data has to be processed and delivered online, and most currently deployed systems are simply not designed to work with millions of reads each day. Luxoft has end-to-end experience in developing and testing advanced metering and metering data analysis solutions and proposes professional services to solve these issues for the customers.
New market realities tend to produce enormous amounts of data each day—with millions of smart meters deployed and planned and with smart energy solutions rollout, the volume of data gathered by AMM/AMI systems is increasing exponentially. At the same time the decisions based on this data have to be done in near real-time, that means that the data should be processed online, regardless of the volume.
Moreover, with Demand Response programs, two-way communication with a customer creates additional dataflow, further complicating the tasks of data management. In order to deploy smart initiatives, data has to be processed, unified, and then converted to a valuable information source that can be used for customer service, both automatically and by individual operators.
Various systems are currently deployed in utilities throughout the world: Customer Information Systems, CRM, and analytical software, but these have been designed to work with traditional amounts of data. In today’s new age, the performance of these systems with increased volumes of data is not meeting expectations, and decisions are not made in time to manage peak load effectively.
Luxoft—BI technologies that make your meters smarter
We believe enterprise-level BI solutions have to be deployed as an intermediate level of meter and customer data processing. Special software has to solve difficult tasks of online analysis to make it possible to remove unnecessary load from legacy systems and to enable effective load management in DR programs.
- 1. DR situational Analysis
Data can be gathered from modern and legacy metering devices, using any protocol and communication layers. Luxoft is experienced in many industry-standards applications and capable of integrating data from different meter manufacturers. Gathered Data create a basis for situational analysis and events management.
- 2. DR Scenarios
Analysis of any situation and modeling of a DR scenario can be challenging, requiring the special technologies usage. Luxoft can deploy scenarios with flexible high-end technologies, such as Complex Events Processing, that allow comprehensive analysis of any situation and effective decision making.
- 3. Visualization
The important part of the solution is an easy-to-understand visual representation of analysis results and the source data used. Visual components can also be integrated into any solution that is currently being used at the enterprise.
