After successfully going through a tough Assessment Days last year, I am looking forward to the intensive Graduate Training over the next few months. I hope that the support from everyone at Excelian will help me to quickly gain the knowledge required to be a successful consultant at Excelian.

We began the Graduate Training programme at Excelian at the start of January. With 13 graduates from around the world, we were all looking forward to starting our new, exciting and challenging careers with Excelian.

It began with a gentle introduction to life at Excelian! The programme started with an excellent presentation and introduction to the company from Adrian Marshall, Chairman and COO. In addition to Adrian’s presentation, we also heard from other senior members of the company introducing us to Capital Markets, Commodities and Technical Consulting. Later in the week we had an interesting, but cold, tour of the City of London, learning about the city’s history and some of the major financial institutes of London.

After the first week of getting to know each other and getting settled in to Excelian, it was straight into learning. Understanding the Financial Markets was the start of our learning journey. . As we have all come from different academic backgrounds certain elements of the financial training have been challenging for all of us. However, with a patient and knowledgeable teacher we all managed to get a good understanding of financial markets, from money markets to equities.

Studying aside, we have had some fun group activities to help us understand Financial Markets. Using the trading simulation software, we got to experience life as a Foreign Exchange trader, with some making profits close to £1 million and others losing it all!

At the end of the two weeks we were given a little quizzette in which we all passed the first time. Now we will move on to more exciting training modules including databases, Murex and soft skill training.

Looking forward to what the next few weeks will bring!
