I have been with Excelian for 5 months, of which just over two working within the reporting stream on client site.  I started with Excelian in June, joining the graduate training programme having been successful at the end of the selection process. Coming from an Engineering background (I studied Industrial engineering with a masters in Thermoenergetic and Mechanical) every element of the training was new to me, but at the same time very interesting. These were an intensive three months where the graduate trainees learnt a whole host of skills, ranging from consultancy skills, software and programming skills, and a wide introduction to the financial markets.

My personal adventure in UK started almost a year ago when I came from Barcelona after finishing my degree to improve my English and then look for an opportunity to work in the City. To get a job here was a challenge in itself as I was looking for a job related with the IT and Financial world and my background and previous experience was within the “pure” engineering field. Maybe the biggest handicap was the fact that you have to face different tests and interviews in a second (third in my case) language, and in an interview you only have one chance to show your skills and knowledge, so you have to give it your best shot.

I am part of the Murex Reporting Division at Excelian - a team of over 20 consultants who specialise in MReports, Actuate and Datamart. It feels really good to be part of a strong team and to be learning from their experience and knowledge every day. The work is hard but very rewarding and I am happy that I am learning so much.

Excelian is a great place to work – people are really friendly, eager to help and teach, and there is a real sense of camaraderie amongst all the consultants. There is the opportunity to travel all over the world – there is currently work in Australia, South Africa and Europe, and I am really looking forward to meeting all of the consultants who are flying in for the Christmas Party in December.

So far I am enjoying living in London and working with an outstanding group of people at Excelian, who are helping me to learn and grow as a professional whilst successfully delivering for my client.
