Luxoft helped Hotwire envision, assess and build a new load testing solution based on a modern, low-cost technology stack. Apart from estimated annual savings of $150K for licensing and support of the previous solution, Hotwire also now enjoys a total cost of ownership (TCO) reduction due to maintenance time, infrastructure and scalability improvements.


Luxoft has extensive experience as a vendor of Hotwire customer applications, both web and mobile. With its continuous investment in R&D, Luxoft was able to initiate and propose the change to Hotwire by choosing, connecting and demonstrating a set of modern, open-source tools to replace the legacy proprietary solution.


Luxoft built the new test solution with the Gatling stress tool, an open-source load testing framework based on Scala, Akka and Netty. The new solution infrastructure is now cross-platform single-tier, allowing the full virtualization of load generation from Hotwire cloud. The number of virtual competitive users rose to 2000, a number that can be easily scaled up on demand. Custom functionality and reporting can be added to test scenarios within the same technology stack, allowing integration reporting to Splunk and the introduction of the SLA-based tests. The new test tool is managed in console mode, allowing scripts to replace human time clicking GUI dialogs.
