Menlo Park, CA, April 15, 2013 – Luxoft, a global provider of advanced application and product development services, unveiled the new OpenFlow 1.3 module for its open source test automation platform, Twister, at the Open Networking Summit 2013 in Santa Clara, CA. With over 200 test cases available, Twister helps equipment vendors thoroughly test and verify the conformance of their software-defined networking (SDN) products with the OpenFlow 1.3 standard.

“The introduction of OpenFlow 1.3 is a major milestone in the industry-wide adoption of software-defined networking. It is designed to become a sound foundation for a broad range of commercial implementations,” said Vasiliy Suvorov, Vice President of Technology Strategy at Luxoft. “Based on feedback from the community and our participation in Open Networking Foundation we saw a growing need for a commercially supported OpenFlow 1.3 conformance test suite. The new module includes additional conformance tests and productivity features. It can be used easily alongside other test scenarios employed for regression, system, and other types of tests, thus providing a complete test automation environment for network equipment developers.”

As an active member of the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), Luxoft is at the forefront of engineering development services in the SDN market. SDN technology allows applications to dynamically configure networks and allow accelerated changes to networking services. The latest version of OpenFlow, 1.3, offers significantly more flexibility and enables a rich set of features along with a broad set of implementations. The new version of the protocol includes support of IPv6, tunneling, quality of service, and more.

Luxoft’s Twister test automation platform is an open source test framework designed specifically for network infrastructure developers and, thanks to its modular structure, works with a number of different technologies, including the OpenFlow protocol for SDN. Twister features an intuitive and friendly web-based user interface with robust reporting and a logging mechanism that provides data for post-test analysis. Furthermore, it is easy to integrate with other tools.

Luxoft’s Twister for OpenFlow framework delivers multiple important benefits for telecom-related businesses:

  • Multiple test use cases, including conformance, quality assurance (QA), regression, and interoperability testing
  • Switch/router engineering test automation for manageable and predictable results
  • Simultaneous application testing for greater efficiency in complex system scenarios
  • Accelerated development test phases to reduce costs and time-to-market
  • Extended test coverage to increase the quality of the testing procedure
  • A one-stop, customizable open source platform that adapts to various project demands
